Vision / Goal

Cursillo is a
Catholic Movement
to form Leaders who Grow through
Prayer, Study and Action
to Evangelise Others
for Christ.

“... a Catholic Movement ...”

Although Cursillo started within the Catholic church in Spain in the 1940s the word Catholic here shouold, perhaps, have a small “c” in that, in the 60 years or so since it was formed, it has become “universal” and has spread throughout the world and into other traditions within which it is variously known as:

  • Cursillo (Catholic and Anglican)
  • Walk to Emmaus (Methodist)
  • Tres Dias (Ecumenical)
  • Kairos (in prisons)

“... to form Leaders ...”

One of the main aims of the movement is to move ordinary believers from a position of “inactivity” to one of “activity.”  Our faith should be personal but most definitely not private!  As committed Christians we are continually called, in every aspect of our lives, to lead other people towards Christ.

This does not mean giving everything up and becoming a roaming evangelist but, rather, we must “Bloom where we are planted.”  Everyone has their own place in the overall socioeconomic structure and Christ is longing to be made present in each and every one of those places.

“... who Grow ...”

To stand still is to move backwards.  We should always be moving onward, striving for a deeper understanding of God’s plan for our lives.  Faith is a journey of discovery; a pilgrimage moving away from ourselves and towards God; away from self-dependence, introspection, over piety and stagnation and into dependance upon God, freedom, joy and growth.

“... through Prayer ...”

Prayer is our dialogue with God.  It should permiate our lives and be part of everything we do, both in terms of formal times of prayer that we set aside each day; times reading God’s word in the scriptures; the daily offering of our work, relaxation, joys; and sufferings and the snatches of awareness of God at points of decision, success, failure, joy, sadness, elation and frustration.

It is in prayer that we tune in to God, move ourselves a little to one side and allow him to move a little nearer the centre of our lives, that we learn what He wants for us.

“... Study ...”

“... and Action ...”

“... to Evangelise Others ...”

“... for Christ”

Through Him, with Him, in Him,

In the unity of the Holy Spirit

all glory and honour is yours, almighty Father,

for ever and ever.

Amen
